How to Maintain Pool After Extremely Weather

With increased dust, contaminated rain and other fine particles blowing into pools as a result of the drought, bushfires, storms and floods, some filters struggle to collect everything to remove it from the water. This leads to cloudy water that needs to be treated. Clarifier and flocculants can help bind these microparticles into larger ones to be filtered or vacuumed out.

High Phosphate levels

There have been three sources for phosphates over the past few weeks; a little from smoke and ash, some from soil dust, and significant amounts from the aerial bombardment of fire retardants, which contain high concentrations of phosphates.

Excess phosphate levels can provide a food source for algae growth. Use Zodiac Phosphate Remover to capture phosphates out of the water. Treatment may cause cloudiness depending on how much phosphate is in the water.

For slightly cloudy water where you can still see the bottom of the pool, use Zodiac Natural Clarifier. For very cloudy water where you can only see the steps, use Zodiac Liquid Flocculant or Zodiac Granular Flocculant. Using flocculants will require settling then vacuuming the particles that have dropped to the bottom of the pool. After treatment with these products, remember to backwash your filter to remove the built-up waste material and improve filter efficiency.

» Step 1. Remove all leaves and debris from the pool as well as skimmer baskets.

» Step 2. Treat for phosphates with Zodiac Phosphate Remover

» Step 3. For slightly cloudy water, use Zodiac Liquid Clarifier.

» Step 4. For very cloudy water, use Zodiac Liquid Floc or Zodiac Floc Granules.

» Step 5. Vacuum pool manually if using a Flocculant.

» Step 6. Backwash filter.

» Step 7. Balance the water to make sure there is sufficient sanitiser and pH levels are correct.
